Alone
Records presents… another project with musicians from
the desert?!! Not exactly. This time, along with Gary Arce
(Yawning Man, Ten East), Mario Lalli (Fatso Jetson, Yawning
Man) and Bill Stinson (Ten East) we are proud to introduce
an american punk legend: Greg Ginn (Black Flag)!!!: Without
this man we wouldn´t probably have no Sonic Youth,
no Nirvana or no Kyuss (to name just a few). So, this is
not another desert band project. This is the ultimate project
of the american punk. This is the album that the "weak-mtv-pussy" punk scene needed. The fathers has come to teach a few things.
And be sure they have a few things to say…
What
would you find musically? Gary Arce's guitar work on the
Perfect Rat is more like patterns with sort of an "angular"
weird punk jazz, very unlike Yawning Man.... a side a Gary's
guitar playing that is so unexpected like a Sort Of Quartet
style, hard jazz patterns, distorted guitar, way different
and cool... Mario Lalli joined the mix so the music had
a really trippy mix with two guitars, definitely psychedelic
and actually some was very moody, swirling psychedelic…
Gary and Mario together are like two siamese twins musically!
Greg Ginn (now on bass) develops a very rhythmic, steady
player that finds that area between steady structure and
jazz type freak outs....rock punk jazz bass! Bill Stinson´s
drumming is more rock drumming with some jazz influences,
and Mario Lalli with his very free form cool style....
Perfect Rat has a heavy rock rhythm section with this freaked
out overdriven guitar and it was pretty out there overdrive
energy by rock standards like when Hendrix played Star Spangled
Banner jam at Woodstock, and his guitar is so alive with
feedback if that works, picture that with a more pattern
based approach versus Yawning Man's lonely, blissful, surf
sounds. Like "Bithces Brew" Miles Davis meets
Black Sabbath and King Crimson.
This release is a must
have, not just for the ones who miss the old SST glory days,
but for anyone who has been following the evolution of rock
music in the last 25 years. A Great release for a little
(but brave!) label. Punk style…
The ultimate jamming jazz punk experience....
