After quitting other bands from Seville and Jerez, the 3 Orthodox members got together late 2004, to start working at the initial concept for their debut album “Gran Poder” (Alone Records, 2006).
With “Gran Poder”, Orthodox manifested their name in the international underground, receiving excellent reviews in media all around (Dusted Magazine, Aquarius Records, Versus Magazine, Rock Zone, Stonerrock.com…), and receiving “Album of the Month” awards in Rock Hard (France), Monolith Magazine (Greece), and at the British musician, composer, writer and visionaire Julian Cope’s website, Head Heritage. Recently, the band cooperated with Julian Cope making the music for “Antequera”, a poem written by Cope inspired by the mythical Shire from Málaga (still unreleased).
Good publicity rapidly opened the eyes of the independent US label Southern Lord (home of Earth, Sunn O))), Boris, Probot), who decided to license “Gran Poder” for the North American territory. They also recently featured different splits and tribute cds to be released in South America by Ogro Records (Peru) and Battle Kommand Records (USA).
In December 2006, Orthodox recorded their second album “Amanecer en Puerta Oscura” (Alone Records 2007/Southern Lord 2007),
Among their most attractive and innovative upcoming projects to be mentioned is their collaboration with the Spanish flamenco dancer Israel Galván (Spanish National Dance Award 2005), with their new show called “Apocalipsis”.
